Call 911!
I’m on fire today.
I’ve just been to Radio Shack to buy LEDs and resistors and batteries and wire, and I’m itching to hook it all up. I’m not positive that it’ll do what I intend, but that’s part of the fire. Finding out. See, the best thing for me is a deadline, and I’ve got a deadline two days away. Last night I was cutting foamboard and tracing pieces, and I couldn’t go to sleep for thinking about how cool these elements were going to look when they’re all painted and done.
Here’s a snapshot from the past.
That’s a wall hanging I did in 2004. It’s a three-dimensional recreation of Hokusai’s ‘Great Wave Off Kanagawa.’ It used to hang above my bed, in my studio, and soon it’ll hang in our dining room (once our space is finished). The months that I spent creating this, and refining technique were also ‘on fire’ times for me. There’s a danger in that head-space, because you tend to disappear from the world for a while, but it’s one of the coolest feelings. It’s the same flow I feel when I’m singing on stage, and sadly the thing that’s often missing from the time I spend songwriting. Songwriting, while something I can find enjoyable, is much more of a tedious thing that I have to work at, and force myself to do. But, I digress…
The pieces I was working on last night are way smaller in scale than this (which is 7 feet x 5 feet), but I’m adding an element of light to them, so they’re super exciting to me. And they’re geek-tastic, so I can’t wait to share them with you. I’m going to unveil them at the Google+ Hangout In Person in Chicago on Thursday. I hope that if you’re in town you can sign up, and come hang out, and if not, be on the lookout for links to see the event live in a hangout. I’m sure they’ll be streaming from there on the day. If I don’t see you there, then I’ll be posting them here sometime this weekend, and you’ll have to let me know what you think. I’ll give you a hint: ‘Avengers Assemble!’
I know. I’m a total dork.
